Appearing in 1862’s “The Bartenders Guide” by Jerry Thomas and cherished by British sailors, the humble Whisky Sour has stood the test of time as the perfect fusion of sweet and sour. Lemon juice, once a weapon against scurvy, now takes center stage, imparting its invigorating citrus zest to this classic cocktail. And let’s not overlook the finishing touch – the maraschino cherry, a delightful garnish that adds a touch of elegance.
In your quest to recreate this timeless libation, the ideal glass is the Old Fashioned, a vessel that embodies the elegance of tradition. With 2 parts (60mL / 2 Fl Oz) of Lyre’s Highland Malt, 1 part (30mL / 1 Fl Oz) of lemon juice, 0.5 part (15mL / 0.5 Fl Oz) of white sugar syrup, and 0.5 part (15mL / 0.5 Fl Oz) of egg white or aquafaba (or 4 drops of a foaming agent), you’ll craft a drink that harkens back to an era when cocktail culture was truly an art form. To finish, a couple of dashes of aromatic bitters add that perfect balance, elevating your Whisky Sour to a masterpiece that embodies the essence of time-honored craftsmanship.
